Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Loughborough, Leicestershire, studying at its College of Art for a diploma with honours, 1963–7. Taught drawing and painting at the College of Art in Rochdale, Lancashire, where he lived, then at Hopwood Hall College full-time for 25 years, accepting early retirement in 1992 when he began full-time painting. Woods shared the first prize for painting with Ian Grant at MAFA in 1986, was elected in 1989 and became its honorary secretary, 1993–5. Group shows included RA Summer Exhibitions, RWA, Bankside Gallery, Castlefield Gallery in Manchester and Harris Art Gallery, Preston. Solo exhibitions included Venice at The Portico Library, Manchester, stemming from an Edward Oldham Trust Travel Bursary. Manchester City Art Gallery and Bury Art Gallery hold examples.
