Painter and potter who attended Newnham College, Cambridge, having come from an academic background. She studied art with Philip Conway in Richmond, Alfred Collister at Kingston (she was founder of the New Kingston Group), at Wimbledon and with Patrick Millard at St John’s Wood, also at Central School of Arts and Crafts. Showed at RA, RCamA and elsewhere. She was the main designer of Claverdon Pottery from the mid-1930s. Later work was signed Claverdon or A Bourne Claverdon. Her pottery in Kent was left to the people who had helped her there. Winnicott’s sister, Pauline Taylor, ran the Llanarth Welsh Pony Stud and was cellist with the Dorian Trio, which toured Welsh schools. Winnicott lived latterly at New Quay, Cardiganshire, and is buried in the cemetery there.
