Installation and sculpture artist, born and lived in London, son of the painter Arthur Wilson. He did a foundation course at London College of Printing, 1970–1, his diploma at Hornsey College of Art, 1971–4, then his master’s degree at Reading University, 1974–6. In 1983 with Anne Bean and Paul Burwell founded the Bow Gamelan Ensemble, an orchestra made from scrap which toured the world and released one single and two cassettes. In 1992 Wilson took up a DAAD artist-in-residency in Berlin. Group shows included LG, Camden Arts Centre, 1975; Whitechapel Open, 1976; and Romance Science Endeavour, Portsmouth City Art Gallery, 1981. Showed solo at Coracle Press Gallery from 1976; at Matt’s Gallery from 1985; Trigon Biennale, Graz, Austria, 1987; Edge Biennale, Newcastle, and Centre of Contemporary Art, Warsaw, both 1990; and Serpentine Gallery and Gimpel Fils, both 1996.
