Sculptor and teacher, born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He attended Wolverhampton College of Art, 1955–60, winning a post-diploma year there in 1961. Having won a Rome Scholarship in sculpture, he attended British School in Rome, 1961–3, and travelled widely in southern Europe. Began to teach, among his appointments being professor of sculpture at Royal College of Art. Showed extensively in group exhibitions throughout Britain and had a series of one-man shows including Bernard Jacobson Gallery. Commissions included Leeds City Council sculpture for Seacroft Civic Centre and British School in Rome garden fountain. Although he was in the 1960s working in a dematerialised style, by the mid-1970s Williams had moved towards a Henry Moore-like organic style.
