Painter who, after an arts foundation course at Bangor, gained a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Cardiff College of Art, 1989, then became a self-employed artist. In 1990 Williams received a grant to visit Germany, Czechoslovakia and France with the rock group Yr Anhrefn, painting on stage as the group performed. She spent much time running art workshops in Welsh schools, also setting up a project for women in Glasgow as part of its festival of culture. Williams won second prize in the fine art competition at the National Eisteddfod of Wales at Bro Delyn in 1991. Her childhood on a hill farm near Bala, Wales, was an influence on her colourful, vibrant work as were her travels and, latterly, the music of John Cale, a Welshman who lived and worked in New York for several decades, formerly a member of Velvet Underground.
