Painter and illustrator, born in London, who studied at Harrow School of Art. He was elected RWS in 1985, also as a member at the NEAC and at the RA. Whittlesea was a prize winner in the Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition and gained a Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers award. Still life incorporated into landscape was a feature of his work, as in his picture The Wiltshire Window, included in the 2003 September Show at the Wykeham Gallery, Stockbridge. Whittlesea wrote extensively on watercolour painting. His work is in the Bury Museum and Art Gallery. Lived at Hurley, Berkshire.
