Painter and illustrator, born in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. After Tonbridge School he attended Herkomer’s School at Bushey, Hertfordshire, where he was to live for much of his life. He showed at RA extensively, Paris Salon, RI as well as New Society of Artists and RBA, of both of which he was a member. The Autotype Company published his picture Joan of Arc Taken Prisoner. Wheelwright was fond of historical subjects and was also an informed painter of the heavy horse. In later years he favoured pictures of bathers in Cornish coves. Public collections in Preston, Oldham and Cheltenham hold his work.
