Islwyn Watkins (1938–2018)

Printmaker, teacher, constructions and events artist, born in Tonypandy, Glamorgan. Watkins studied at Cardiff College of Art, 1954–9, then taught in Hertfordshire and Leeds before going to study and teach part-time at the University of Wisconsin, America, 1965–6. After that there were periods of teaching in the Birmingham area, including Birmingham Polytechnic. Watkins participated in many group shows in Wales, London, the English provinces and America, and solo exhibitions included University of Birmingham and New Art Gallery, Rugby. He organised and took part in happenings in London and America. WAC holds his work.
