Painter of quirky, surreal pictures, born in Glasgow. He graduated with honours from its School of Art, 1987–91, specialising in painting, with study at the National College of Art, Dublin, in 1990; having attended Cardonald College of Further Education, 1984–6, gaining the Scotvec Diploma in Art in Design, concentrating on ceramics. Wallace won a string of awards, including the J D Kelly Award, Glasgow School of Art, 1987; John Kinross Scholarship, RSA, 1991, with study in northern Italy; Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Awards, 1993 and 1996; second prize, Alasdair Gilchrist Fisher Memorial Award, 1994; Alexander Graham Munro Travel Award, RSW, a highly commended at Laing Art Competition and second prize and the Noble Grossart Painting Prize, all 1997; Guthrie Award, RSA, 1999; and Noble Grossart again, 2001.
