Painter and stage designer, born in County Durham. He studied at Middlesbrough and St Martin’s Schools of Art. Designed sets and costumes for three productions of the Royal Ballet. Unsworth showed extensively in group exhibitions from mid-1960s, including Camden Arts Centre, Rutland Gallery, The Minories in Colchester and abroad, including the British Council touring show Picturing People, in 1989–90. Had many one-man exhibitions at Piccadilly Gallery from 1963, a number on the continent and in 1980 a retrospective at Middlesbrough Art Gallery. He had frequent group and solo shows from the late 1990s at East West Gallery. Arts Council, the Government Art Collection and provincial galleries hold his work, as well as several abroad. Lived in London after several years in Ibiza.
