Artist and teacher working in a variety of paper-type media, born in Jerusalem, Palestine, who was self-taught. He showed at Venice Biennale in 1984 and John Moores Liverpool Exhibition from 1987, in 1989–90 winning a prize for his Minimalist work Of the Times, one of a series created by pulping an issue of The Times newspaper, another prize in 1999. Also took part in On a Plate, Serpentine Gallery, 1987, Fragments of False Houses at Pomeroy Purdy Gallery, 1988, and Hayward Gallery tour The British Art Show 5, 2000–1. From 1983 he had regular solo shows in London, notably at Anthony Reynolds Gallery from 1985. In 1990 had one-man show at Israel Museum with tour, in 2002 one at Jeffrey Charles Gallery. Arts Council holds his work. Toren taught at City and Guilds School of Art and lived in London.
