Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born in Leek, Staffordshire. He was educated there and at Patrick Allan-Fraser School of Art, Hospitalfield, Arbroath. He taught at Liverpool College of Art, 1913–50, and showed at RA, at Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, which holds his oil The Two Jugs, and elsewhere in the provinces. Died in Liverpool, where the University Art Collections held a retrospective entitled A familiar world in 2002, touring to the Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead, in 2003. Timmis concentrated on still life and portraits, including a sensitive and painterly series depicting his wife and two children at home.
