Painter, muralist and draughtsman, born in Glasgow where he gained an honours degree at the School of Art, 1980–4. Thomson was a keen observer of human behaviour and social attitudes whose work was tinged with a fantastic quality. From 1986–7 he worked as team supervisor for Haringey Health Authority Mural Project. Commissions included Artlink (Edinburgh), mural for St John’s Hospital, Livingston, 1993. Group shows included Images of Tottenham, Tottenham Town Hall, 1987; Figure in the City, Mia Joosten Gallery, Amsterdam, and tour, 1992–3; Scottish Painters, Flowers East, 1993; Pride and Passion, The National Burns Exhibition, The Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, 1996; Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, Mall Galleries, from 1998; and Mary Stuart, Bourne Fine Art, Edinburgh, 2000.
