Painter, printmaker, sculptor, ceramist and teacher, born in London. Studied at Royal College of Art under William Rothenstein, then was visiting lecturer at Camberwell School of Art, 1936–9; was at Willesden School of Art, 1936–49; at Central School of Art, 1948–9; then was head of design school at Leeds College of Art, 1949–56; was principal there, 1956–69; becoming deputy director of Leeds Polytechnic, 1969–71. Was a member of RE and of Leeds Fine Art Club. Also showed at NEAC, RA, LG and extensively abroad in mixed exhibitions. Solo shows were held at Middlesbrough and Wakefield Art Galleries, at Linton Court Gallery in Settle and at Goosewell Gallery, Menston. Taylor’s main work was a 60-foot by 10-foot mosaic mural for Leeds Merrion Centre.
