Painter, draughtsman and printmaker, husband of the artist Nora Summers, born into a north country steel manufacturing family. His mother encouraged him to attend the Slade School of Fine Art, 1905–9. With Nora he embarked on a roving, bohemian life, including friendship with August John and gypsy caravanning. After Gerald’s World War I service in France, in 1923 the Summers settled at Ferndown, Dorset, where he took up toy- and furniture-making. Showed at NEAC, Chenil and Redfern Galleries and Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, having a solo exhibition at Paterson Gallery, 1930. Was represented in The Summers Family, at Sally Hunter Fine Art, 1995. The work of his grandson, Gabriel, was also included.
