Painter, printmaker, draughtsman, teacher and gallery owner, born in Shavington near Crewe, in Cheshire, whose countryside he drew and painted prolifically. After studying under the influential Arthur Berry at Stoke-on-Trent College of Art, Stuttle aged 18 entered the Royal College of Art under Robin Darwin, teachers including Roger de Grey, Ruskin Spear and Carel Weight. Stuttle taught for nine years, visited Canada for an extended painting and exhibiting trip and latterly ran galleries in York and Scarborough, where he sold his own diverse pictures. Granada Television commissioned work from him, linked to the soap opera Coronation Street. Stuttle completed many self-portraits. One, aged 17, was bought by the collector Ruth Borchard and is illustrated in Philip Vann’s book Face To Face, published in 2004 by Sansom & Company Ltd/Piano Nobile Fine Paintings.
