Kathleen Trousdell Shaw [also known as Kathleen T. Shaw, and as K. T. Shaw] was born in Edmonton, Middlesex, England in 1865 [1]. She was the daughter of an Irish doctor and was raised in Ireland. At the age of 5 she was diagnosed as being partially deaf and by the age of 17 was almost totally deaf. She had a talent for modelling and at the age of 10 years was enrolled at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art where she learnt drawing and sculpture. She gained medals and prizes which enabled her, at age 15, to go to Paris where she was accepted into the École des Beaux-Arts and from there continued her studies in Rome and Athens. Shaw worked as a sculptor and medallist from the late 1880s onwards. She exhibited frequently at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin from 1887 to 1906 and the Royal Academy in London from 1889 and 1914.
She created statues and portrait busts of several prominent people including Rudyard Kipling, Prince Dward of Saxe Weimar, and Wilbraham Egerton, 2nd Baron, 1st Earl Egerton of Tatton, A bust entitled A Saint of Ancient Ireland by her which was exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts in 1899 is illustrated in Academy Architecture vol. 16, 1899 (p.69).
She died in Amersham, Buckinghamshire on 13 June 1958.
