Painter in watercolour and oil, born in Tasmania, Australia. He made frequent trips there and was influenced by the landscape of Tasmania, where there was a long tradition of landscape painting. Salmon first visited England in 1955, moved to America, 1962–4, in 1965 returning to Oxford, which became his home. He studied part-time at Ruskin School of Drawing, 1980–96. Was a member of Oxford Art Society and took part in group shows with it, RI and RWS. He was represented in the exhibition Fifty years of watercolour painting in Tasmania, 1978. Solo shows included Lloyd Jones Gallery, Hobart, 1964; Borlase Gallery, Blewbury, 1973; Salamanca Place Gallery, Hobart, from 1976; Halesworth Gallery, Halesworth, 1980.
