Painter of exuberantly colourful abstracts, born in Nicosia, Cyprus. He did a foundation course at Cumbria College of Art and Design, Carlisle, 1978–9, then graduated with an honours degree, painting, from Exeter College of Art and Design, 1979–82. He joined Spacex Studios, Exeter, 1982–6, in 1986–8 travelling to America, also moving to Edinburgh. In 1988, Robertson was the first Scottish recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, New York, in 1993 being artist-in-residence at Grizedale, Cumbria. Mixed shows included Scottish Painters, Flowers East, 1993; Nine, Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh, 1995; and from 1996 Galerie Moderne, Silkeborg, Denmark, with America, France, Hong Kong and Norway being other foreign venues. Among Robertson’s later solo exhibitions was Art First, in 1998.
