Artist and teacher who wrote that his work was “influenced by the culture and folk-tales of my native Scotland. I have worked on several collaborations with writers including Ian Stephen, Valerie Gillies, Harvey Holton and Kevin McNeil. My later work has been influenced by travelling around the Western Isles and Orkney.” Doug Robertson was born in Dundee, Angus. He studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, 1984–9, and the University of Strathclyde, 1996–7, notable teachers including Will Maclean, James Morrison, Alberto Morrocco and Joseph Mackenzie. Robertson was artist-in-residence, Clydesdale District, 1994–7, also David Livingstone Centre and Scottish Fisheries Museum, both 1996, and latterly taught in Hampshire, where he lived at Hambledon.
