Watercolourist and teacher, born in Sunderland, County Durham. She studied painting at Edinburgh College of Art, 1953–8, teachers including William Gillies, John Maxwell and William MacTaggart. After a post-diploma scholarship year, in 1959 was awarded a travelling scholarship with which she went to Spain. In 1960 she took a teaching diploma at Moray House, Edinburgh, then until 1980 taught art in Edinburgh schools. Renton was elected a member of SSA in 1960, SSWA in 1972 and RSW in 1977. SSWA gave her a special award in 1985. Group exhibitions also included Contemporary Art from Scotland, Arts Council tour, 1965; The Knightsbridge Gallery, Wichita, America, 1979; Ancrum Gallery, Ancrum, 1984; and National Trust for Scotland, 1985. Had a solo show at Douglas & Foulis Gallery, Edinburgh, 1965, later exhibitions including Macaulay Gallery, Stenton, 1985–6, and Sally Hunter Fine Art, 1987.
