Sculptor, mainly in stone, wood, clay and plaster, and teacher, born in Edinburgh. She studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, 1965–71, teachers including Scott Sutherland, for diploma and post-diploma work. Lectured at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, 1979–83, then went self-employed on her own and commissioned work, including letter-cutting, although in 1988 she was appointed a tutor for the Open College. Pelly was a member of RSA and SSA. In 1987 she was appointed artist-in-residence at Highland Park Distillery, Orkney, and settled there in 1988, living at Evie. Pelly said she was “strongly influenced by early traditional training and working from the figure and by the environment, island living and the north.” This was evident in her show Nousts at Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, with tour, 1992.
