Painter, printmaker, writer and teacher, born Marjorie Mary Misomé Peile in Southsea, Hampshire, into a naval family. She was initially educated in Seaford, Sussex, lived in Malta from 1936–8, then studied art in Rome and with Leonard Fuller at St Ives School of Painting, 1939–43. From 1945–8 Peile (pronounced Peel) worked officially with the Royal Marine Commando, 29th United States Infantry Division, the Ballet Rambert and Alan Carter Ballet. In 1947–8 she toured the Midlands with the Adelphi Guild Theatre under Arts Council auspices. She was an invited member of Newlyn Society of Artists and in 1949 a founder-member of Penwith Society of Arts. In 1947 Peile showed in St Ives with the Crypt Group in New Gallery, with St Ives group at Heal’s Mansard Gallery, 1951, was a founder-member of Taurus Artists and exhibited with RWS, RBA, RBSA and abroad, notably in South Africa.
