Painter, born in Leatherhead, Surrey, who attended Watford College of Art & Design, 1982–3, then Goldsmiths’ College, 1983–6. His picture Minotaur, 1996, in About Vision, Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, 1996–7, and tour, prompted fellow-exhibitor Fiona Rae to comment that Patterson’s “protagonists have a strong physical presence”. Group shows also included Freeze, Surrey Docks, 1988, and Portrait of the Artist, Anthony d’Offay Gallery, 1996, which in that year gave Patterson a solo exhibition, Project Space, with another in 1997. Photo-Realist images with popular culture features were part of Patterson’s output. Timothy Taylor Gallery showed Patterson’s Paintings from Dallas in 2005. Tate Britain holds his work. Lived in London.
