Painter, stained glass designer, typographer and teacher, born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. He was the son of artist James Milner and husband of artist Mildred Milner. Donald Milner studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and Royal College of Art, 1919–23. He became principal of the West of England College of Art, Bristol, after teaching at art schools in Birmingham and Gloucester. Milner did typographical design for several publishers, including Bibliographical Society and Sidgwick and Jackson. He was president of RWA 1974–8 and showed at RA, NEAC, Arts Council and Cooling Galleries. Bristol Courts of Justice and the University and Ivy Hatch Church, in Kent, have Milner’s stained glass windows. Victoria & Albert Museum and public galleries in Bristol and Gloucester hold works by him.
