Painter of landscape and still life, born into an Army family. Although showing an aptitude for painting, he left Wellington for Sandhurst where he passed out with the sword of honour. Then served in the Royal Green Jackets in Britain and widely overseas, the Imperial War Museum acquiring his pictures done in Northern Ireland, Borneo and Cyprus. Left Army in mid-1980s as a lieutenant-colonel and became secretary of the Arts Club. Began to show at RA, added to a string of solo exhibitions and was elected RBA in 1986. Working on a small scale, Miers painted widely in Britain and continental Europe, as indicated in his one-man show at Sally Hunter Fine Art, 1990. Lived in London.
