London-born and -based painter with a taste for collage, who attended London Guildhall University, 1993–4, and Winchester School of Art, 1994–7. Middleton had a mixed career completing commissions for cruise liners and exhibiting his own work. Among his shows was Stolen Goods, The Tannery, 1997; RA Summer Exhibition, from 2000; BOC Emerging Artist Award, 2002; and in 2004 the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery and John Moores Liverpool Exhibition.
