Illustrator, muralist and artist who attended Lambeth School of Art, 1910–12. She illustrated for periodicals, including The Bystander, The Royal Magazine, Pearson’s, The London Magazine, The Graphic, The Queen and The Sphere. When photography began to erode the illustrator’s market, McKie (pronounced McKee) obtained commissions from sources such as the Southern Railway (the originals of her two famous pictures of Waterloo station are in the Railway Museum, York), Ford and the magazine Navy during World War II. During and after the war she developed a career painting murals, notably for Butlin’s Holiday Camps. McKie had two enduring interests: military uniforms and France and the French. Among several books illustrated was a fine edition of P C Wren’s novel Beau Geste.
