Painter and assemblage maker, who studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. McGuinness was notable for his singular assemblages of plastic toys and fragments to create sinister objects often painted in black. They were given such titles as Max, Time Hub and Apocalyptic Horseman and a number were displayed at The Compass Contribution, Tramway, in Glasgow, 1990. Compass gave McGuinness a solo show in 1986, which toured, and he also had a one-man exhibition at Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine. McGuinness showed with SSA, RSA, Glasgow Group and elsewhere in Scotland.
