Painter, especially of portraits in oil, born in Paisley, Renfrewshire. He studied at Glasgow School of Art under Fra Newbery and Maurice Greiffenhagen. Showed at RSA, to which he was elected in 1939, RA, Lefevre Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Member of the Society of Eight. McGlashan’s portraits, especially of women, have at their best a painterly assurance and sparkle. Member of Glasgow Art Club. McGlashan’s work is in the collections of Glasgow University as well as galleries in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Paisley. Lived in Glasgow, then later in Rothesay, Isle of Bute. McGlashan’s son was the artist John McGlashan, who worked as Glashan.
