Sculptor in stone and bronze, born in Glasgow. After attending the Junior School of Arts and Crafts, Birmingham, 1931–4, McFall was at the College of Arts there for five years from 1934. In London he attended the Royal College of Art, 1940–1, the City and Guilds of London Art School, 1941–5, then worked with Epstein in his studio for around 15 years to the late 1950s. Was elected RA in 1963, having exhibited at RA from 1943. Tate Gallery owns his stone carving Bull Calf, completed when McFall was working as a farm labourer in Buckinghamshire. From 1956–75 McFall was master of sculpture at City and Guilds School, Kennington. Among his commissions are a bronze portrait bust of the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams for the Royal Festival Hall, London, the stone group Oedipus and Jocasta for Norbury Library and a bronze portrait of HRH The Prince of Wales for Buckingham Palace.
