Painter, teacher and critic. Born in Perth, Scotland, McCheyne studied art in Edinburgh, under the portrait and interior painter David Alison, in the late 1930s; also studied in London and at L’Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris, after World War II. He won a number of scholarships. He became principal art teacher at George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh, and taught painting and life drawing at Lauder Technical School, in Dunfermline. His work appeared in The Scotsman and The Listener. Exhibited at RSA, SSA and with the AEB. Lived in Edinburgh.
