Artist, born in England, who settled in Edinburgh. He graduated in English at the University of Kent, 1979–83, then in fine art, Goldsmiths’ College, 1986–9. His many group show appearances included Performance collaboration, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow, 1992; Billboard and Performance, Aerial, Edinburgh, 1994; Drawings, The Bongo Club, Edinburgh, 1996; Evolution is not over yet, Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, 1999; and British Art Show 5 tour and Protest & Survive, Whitechapel Gallery, both 2000. McCail had solo exhibitions at the Collective Gallery, Edinburgh, and Laurent Delaye Gallery, both 1998; Attitudes, Geneva, Switzerland, in 1999; and Laurent Delaye, 2000: People take turns to do the difficult jobs. In that exhibition, McCail proposed “a possible post-capitalist community”, accompanying the pictures with a detailed statement.
