Representational painter, as in his oil on canvas Plume, at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1997–8. Maughan was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and studied at The Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland, 1983–7. Exhibitions included Waikato Museum of Art, Hamilton, 1993; Blind Field at Coventry Gallery, London, where Maughan latterly lived, 1995; and Undergrowth at Holly Street Studios, 1997. Later solo shows included The Great Outdoors, Tinakori Gallery, Wellington, 1997. Saatchi Collection holds his work.
