Creator of animated models, painter and teacher, father of the artist Danny Markey. He was born in Swansea, where he studied at the College of Art. Later moved to Falmouth, Cornwall, where he taught in a local school. Showed in the Recording Wales – Chapels WAC exhibition in 1969 and at Royal National Eisteddfod. Solo shows included Studio 17 in Bristol and in 1995 Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum, where he was artist-in-residence. WAC holds his work. Markey’s models, cut out of wood and brightly coloured, were cranked into life by turning a handle, and included kissing couples, footballers, argumentative politicians and a classroom of children. He also made wave machines. Later lived in Powys.
