Self-taught artist in oil, acrylic and watercolour, born in London, who was educated at Epsom College and London University. He took up painting in 1972 “and progressed from landscapes to genre, figure and sporting scenes”. Madgwick was elected to UA in 1976, RBA in 1986 and was also a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists. He won a number of prizes, including the Royale Landscape Prize in 1978 and 1991 and in 1987 a Higgs and Hill Bursary and the Daler-Rowney Award, Equestrian Society of London. Abbey National commissioned him to paint abbeys in the United Kingdom and its Baker Street headquarters, Calor Gas products in use. Mixed shows included Blackheath Gallery, Webster Gallery in Eastbourne and galleries in America and on the continent.
