Performance artist, painter, sculptor, printmaker and teacher, born Blair Atholl, Perthshire. He attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, 1960–5; Patrick Allan-Fraser School of Art, Hospitalfield, Arbroath, 1965; Dundee College of Education, 1966–8; and Institute of Chicago School of Art, in America, 1968–73. MacLennan taught at Wayne State University, Detroit; Eastern Illinois University, Charleston; Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, in Canada; Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax; then returned to teach at Blackpool College of Technology and Art, in England. He took part in many group exhibitions in Canada, his first solo show, in 1971, consisting of 32 one-man performances in Halifax. Was included in A Choice Selection at Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, in 1975.
