Versatile artist, born in Clydebank, Scotland, studying at Glasgow School of Art, 1963–7. MacAskill worked in “multi-media, everything/anything” and described himself as “househusband, painter who also designs for dance, sculptor, performance and mail art.” Conceptual games and puns were a feature of MacAskill’s mail art, the rigours of the postal journey contributing essentially to the final object. For his 1998 solo show at Milton Gallery, St Paul’s School, MacAskill mailed to himself daily for six months. Other one-mans included Reed’s Wharf Gallery, 1993; Djanogly University Gallery Nottingham, 1996; Wapping Pumping Station, 1997, Sadler’s Wells, 2000; and Fergus McDonald Gallery, 2001. Also did work for Dance House Films, for BBC2 Television, 1990; Almeida Theatre, 1993; Royal Court Theatre, 1994; and Queen Elizabeth Hall, 1995.
