Painter of landscapes with a visionary quality, born in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, raised in the Usk Valley, later establishing a studio in the Hertfordshire countryside in Watton at Stone. Lewis studied at Ruskin School of Drawing, Oxford, 1963–4, and Byam Shaw School of Art, 1965–70. In 1986 won a major prize at Watford Museum Open Exhibition, in 1988 was a Drawing For All prizewinner at Gainsborough’s House, Sudbury. Group exhibitions included RA Summer Exhibition from 1967; New Art Centre, 1974; Goldmark Gallery, Uppingham, 1990; and Roy Miles Gallery, 1994. Had a solo show at Upper Street Gallery, 1973, later ones including Oriel Contemporary Art, 1995. Watford Museum, CASW and Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Leicestershire County Councils hold examples.
