Actor, singer and recreational painter, born in East Sheen, Surrey. He was educated at Westminster School and made his first appearance professionally at the Old Vic in 1925. He made his first film appearance in 1931 and then established a career in television. Notable among Knight’s numerous appearances was his one-man show Agincourt – the Archer’s Tale. During World War II Knight was in the Royal Navy, and while serving on the Prince of Wales was hit in the face by molten metal and blinded. He underwent rehabilitation at a St Dunstan’s training school and was able to resume acting, partially recovering his sight in 1943, but at best it was “like looking through clouds”, and it eventually deteriorated. Even so, Knight developed as a competent painter and had several shows, including New Town Gallery, Uckfield.
