Painter and printmaker, born in Llandudno, Caernarvonshire. He attended Wrexham and Chester Schools of Art, 1961, then Royal College of Art, 1966–70. Exhibited at ICA and Europalia, Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, 1973; in 1974 at Bradford Print Biennale and John Moores Liverpool Exhibition; in 1977 International Print Biennale, Cracow; and in 1982 participated in Peter Moores Liverpool Project 6: Art into the 80s, at Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh. Johnson’s work theme then was the closed door, the undulations in wood grains and colour modulations beautifully and meticulously painted. Also showed at RA Summer Exhibition and elsewhere. A common inspiration of Johnson’s pictures was the work of such leading architects as Norman Foster, Richard Rogers and James Stirling, and in 1995 he was made an Hon.
