Painter and teacher, born in Dalkeith, Midlothian, son of the painter Thomas Shand Hutchison. After North Berwick High School attended Edinburgh College of Art where his teachers included William Gillies, John Maxwell and Leonard Rosoman, and was there for two periods – 1939–40 and 1946–9 – interrupted by the war. Showed with RSA, SSA, Scottish Arts Club and elsewhere. Lived in North Berwick and had a studio in Edinburgh.
