Painter and teacher, born in London. He studied at Richmond School of Art, 1935–7, then Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, 1946–8, under William Coldstream after six years’ military service. In 1950 he moved to Bristol to take a teaching post at West of England College of Art. He was senior lecturer in the faculty of fine art at Bristol Polytechnic until 1980 and lecturer in art history in the extra-mural department of Bristol University. For several years Hurdle taught drawing at Barry Summer School, Glamorgan. Hurdle began showing in LG shows in 1949 until 1965; also showed RWA, 1959–75, resigning his membership in 1976; other mixed shows including RA, New Art Centre, Frost and Reed Gallery in Bristol and Pelter/Sands Gallery, Bristol.
