Painter of animals and rustic scenes, born in Birmingham. As a child Edgar began sketching farm life, encouraged by his father, a part-time art teacher. He was influenced by his uncle Walter Hunt, whose The Dog in the Manger was bought by the influential Chantrey Bequest in 1885. Edgar Hunt showed with the RBSA, at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and at the London Salon. When his friend the admired sporting artist John Frederick Herring junior died in 1907 Hunt was much affected, thereafter withdrawing from the world and rarely leaving his Sussex farm. W H Patterson included Hunt in Fine English & Continental Paintings in 2003 and Richard Green also showed his work.
