Artist and lecturer, born in London, married to the painter Karyn White. He did a foundation course at Chelsea College of Art, 1979–80, then graduated with honours in fine art from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design, 1980–3. Humphries’ appointment as official copyist at the National Portrait Gallery from 1983 was the first in a wide-ranging career connected with digital imaging which embraced residencies, lectureships, conference appointments as organiser and speaker, editorships and positions as external examiner. These latterly included research consultant, The Kent Institute, and artist-in-residence Visualeyes Imaging Ltd, both 1997; senior research fellow, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia, 1997–9; visiting lecturer, Sydney College of the Arts, Rozelle, Sydney, and The Tasmanian College of the Arts, Hobart, both 1998; and selector, The Australian Paper Awards 1999, The Arts Centre of Victoria.
