
Emmeline Halse was born at 7 Adelaide Terrace, Bayswater, London, England on 25 May 1853 and was the daughter of George Halse (1826-1895), a sculptor. After training with her father, she studied at the Royal Academy Schools in London from 1876 to c.1883; and under Frédéric Louis Désiré Bogino (1831-1899) at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy in London from 1878 to 1920. She also exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool; Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; the Royal Manchester Institution; and at the Royal Academy in London. Notable among her works was reredos of the Crucifixion for the Church of St John the Evangelist in Ladbroke Grove, London in 1890. From 1878 to 1920 her address was given as 15 Clarendon Road, Notting Hill, London.
