Painter, notably in watercolour, and collagist, born in Birmingham. She studied at the School of Art there and at Royal Academy Schools. Girling’s work had a strong sense of place. She began to experiment with collage during a visit to Barcelona in 1983; her pictures were composed from previously painted fragments of canvas, secured in place and then repainted and glazed to create a variety of rich textures. The landscapes of Canada and Dorset were favourite subjects. Showed in London, including Francis Graham-Dixon Gallery, New York, Hamburg and Canada, having a solo show in Edmonton and Calgary in 1978. Her husband was the sculptor Anthony Caro, her son the painter Paul Caro. Lived in London.
