Painter in oil and writer, born in London, where she died. She was married to the artist Mervyn Peake and mother of the painter Fabian Peake. Studied at the Westminster School of Art, originally sculpture, then switched to painting on meeting Peake, whom she married in 1937. Maeve put Mervyn’s work first, sacrificing her own talent. She had a number of shows in London, including Woodstock Gallery, sharing some with Mervyn, her pictures including portraits, still lifes and imaginary landscapes. When Peake became too ill to work, for many years she promoted his stature. She wrote A World Away, the story of their lives, 1970, as well as several other books.
