Artist and critic who was born in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Studied at Hertfordshire College of Art, 1983–4, then Goldsmiths’ College, graduating with honours, 1984–7. Group exhibitions included The Multiple Projects Room, Air de Paris, Nice, 1990. Solo shows included 84 Diagrams, at Karsten Schubert Ltd, 1989; and Documents, with Henry Bond, Karsten Schubert, 1991. With Andrew Renton co-edited Technique Anglaise: Current Trends in British Art, 1991. Gillick’s show at Arnolfini, Bristol, in 2000 covered work from the previous decade and reflected his interest “in art as provisional constructions that project a space where ideas can be reassessed.” It included diagrams, wall paintings, structures and platforms, audio, video and film.
