Self-taught painter, born in Egypt, who graduated in medicine from London University, 1982, gaining his Master of Science philosophy degree from the London School of Economics in 1989. Ghattas’ career as an artist was successful after he gave up a lucrative position as an ear, nose and throat surgeon and lecturing in philosophy at the London School of Economics. Between 1994–6, he was a visiting lecturer at Winchester School of Art, and was an assessor for Westminster Arts. Group exhibitions included The Laing Open, Mall Galleries, 1991; Affordable Art Company, Connaught Brown, from 1993; and Courtauld Institute of Art’s Biennial, 1996. Had a solo show at Z Gallery, New York, 1992, later ones including Images of God, Hirschl Contemporary Art at the Gallery in Cork Street, 1996.
